yet another original - You're all talk

this is something that I began writing in song writing class. We were to chose a cliche from a list of cliches and the one i chose was "when the going gets tough - the tough get going." when writing the first 2 verses I tried keeping in mind the whole eel, touch taste concept, learnt in a previous lesson. I also used the concept of beginning with the chorus.

Chorus:
But when I need you, you're no where to be found.
I try to hear you, but all I hear is muffled sound.
Your taste goes to waste, and everything becomes bitter sweet.
The back of your head seems so strong,
because only I could ever be wrong.
When the going gets tough, you get going!

VS1.
I've always needed it in black and white, with decent reasoning behind it.
I've never been one for being smooth, always straight to the point.
I love the idea of coming home to you;
When you'd leave your taste on my tongue
and your sweet stench seeping into my nostrils.
To just inhale you!

Chorus:
But when I need you, you're no where to be found.
I try to hear you, but all I hear is muffled sound.
Your taste goes to waste, and everything becomes bitter sweet.
The back of your head seems so strong,
because only I could ever be wrong.
When the going gets tough, you get going!

VS2.
Should've learnt by now to keep it to myself.
You ony seem to worsen my health.
You've caught me off guard and history repeats itself.
Look at you standing there!
Your abuse tastes like liquor.
Your guard always so strong!

Chorus:
But when I need you, you're no where to be found.
I try to hear you, but all I hear is muffled sound.
Your taste goes to waste, and everything becomes bitter sweet.
The back of your head seems so strong,
because only I could ever be wrong.
When the going gets tough, you get going!

Bridge:
Over the years I have become your personal dust collector.
Sometimes you're absolutely beautiful, and other times I want o shoot you in the head,
and only to bring you back when I miss you.
Now where to go from here?

Chorus:
But when I need you, you're no where to be found.
I try to hear you, but all I hear is muffled sound.
Your taste goes to waste, and everything becomes bitter sweet.
The back of your head seems so strong,
because only I could ever be wrong.
When the going gets tough, you get going!

my original

this is a song that I wrote, about how screwed up society is these days and the people of it. I began writing it in composition about 2 weeks ago. The class task was to write something using the opening line of "It;s never too late to be who you might have been," using 2 colours and onomateopeia. This is the finished and edited result of what I wrote. song is yet to be titles... and open to suggestions for all you readers who need to comment :)

verse 1:
it's never too late to be who you might have been.
look out the window and what do you see?
sunshine and blue skies above me;
society can be so mean.
SMASH! goes the glass bottle! CLANK! goes his head!
SPLATTER! goes his blood! OH NO! he is dead!
pre-chorus:
a little girl is born in blood.
an old man is crying.
turn aorund and what is left?
everyone is dying.

chorus:
so why do we become bypassers to all the casualties.
with A black stain on our hearts, we watch the fire burn.
Pushing past the ignorance, our neighbour turns a blind eye.
You act like you see nothing, as you just walk on by.
VS2.
It's never too late to be who you might have been.
A woman pursues vengeance.
her dark passenger takes over.
she succumbs to an illusion!
as a man's knocked out by a crowbar!
Oozing are the pussy scabs! whispers are all he hears. WOOF! go the barking dogs.
We're all cowards to our fears!
Pre-chorus
a little girl is born in blood.
an old man is crying.
turn aorund and what is left?
everyone is dying.

chorus:
so why do we become bypassers to all the casualties.
with A black stain on our hearts, we watch the fire burn.
Pushing past the ignorance, our neighbour turns a blind eye.
You act like you see nothing, as you just walk on by.
Bridge:
Living in oblivion, our neighbour wears a mask.
and then reveals himself by hiding his heart.
With our deepest fears reflecting back, our secrets are concealed.
You would rather run then stay and fight.
Your disguise, your only shield.
pre-chorus
a little girl is born in blood.
an old man is crying.
turn aorund and what is left?
everyone is dying.

chorus:
so why do we become bypassers to all the casualties.
with A black stain on our hearts, we watch the fire burn.
Pushing past the ignorance, our neighbour turns a blind eye.
You act like you see nothing, as you just walk on by.

Karnivool - C.O.T.E

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUmARJ0o6Hw

above is the youtube link for this song. it's called C.O.T.E (cote = centre of the earth) by a band called Karnivool

I absolutely love this song. once vocals come in it starts off quite soft and takes you in with a feeling of empathy. The vocals take you on an emotional journey.

the tone quality in the lead singers voice when he sings "No, I don't think you like me,"  is just beautiful as he reveals a sense of vulnerability. The repetition of this line in the song suggests a reoccuring event. the title expresses a sense of what the song is about as well, how society works. This song is all about being yourself, and how he sees the world.

my favourite lyric section in this song is the bridge:

"Sing alone, sing aloud, to be alive, its so good to feel you near
swim alone, live a dream, see me drown, all this in apathy
Be still for a moment
so you can face this world, you face it all for a moment
so you can face this world, you face this world"

This verse is pretty self explanatory really. It is about exactly what it possess. the first line of this verse "Sing alone, sing aloud, to be live, it's so good to feel you near," presents a sense of gratitude to just being "alive," being hear and now! why do we sing? to express ourselves, we sing when we're happy we sing when we're sad, it's our form of expression, and here the lead singer is doing just that.
"Swim alone, live a dream, see me drown, all this in apathy." a sense of having it all, and not caring - apathy meaning a sense of lack of concern, therefore the world as we know it. take it for granted, you can have it all and not care, be the centre of the earth (C.O.T.E) and not appreciate it. And so you must "be still for a moment; so you can face this world, you face it all for a moment." take that moment in, appreciate what has been thrown at you and what you have, face the world and take it all on. Moment of confrontation.

SORRY - Bic Runga

gahh it's so annoying..i youtube bic runga - sorry and all i get is bic runga sway! wanted to post the link so, if you can ever find it let me know...it's off the abulm "Drive". I really like this song. The melody is quite powerful as are the lyrics, thus the two tieing in well together. What I find interesting is although the song is called sorry, I dont think she ever actually says the word "sorry" and uses it as a lyrics throughout the song. "Sorry" I lie, (see what I did there =p) the closest she comes to saying "it" (Idid "it" again) is the use of the word "sorries," in the first verse. (I was not aware that I had even done this until proof reading )
I also really like how musically the song builds. before the lyrics even come in, the music starts really soft and each bar just gradually keeps building ever so slightly. My favourite lyrics in this song are the first 2 verses... I think here Bic turns her stubborness to apologise through lyrics.
And again, I feel this song something everyone can relate to. Well I know I can anyway. We all have our stubborn and proud moments, where we don't know how to swallow our own pride and be the bigegr person. They say "sorry" and "I love you" are the hardest things to say. I personally can see how the two come hand in hand, and I feel in this song that Bic feels the same way. Given that in the first line it says "wring out my guilt" my interpretation is that Bis is at fault, but she is to stubborn and proud and finds it hard to face up to this.
Bic procrastinates what she needs to say by "looking round the pantry for a box of sorries."
I love the imagery created in the verses as well. I also love how the listener is to assume what "it" is in the line "say it now"... given the title of the song I have assumed the word "it" being figuritive for "sorry."

***
Wring out my guilt and hang it on the line
Its been raining all week, it won't get a chance to dry
I've been looking round the pantry for a box of sorries
I'm all run out yeah
I'm all run out

It's not that hard to say I know
It's not that hard to say I know
It's not that hard to say
So why can't I say it now?

And its been swelling up inside like the kitchen sponge
Its on the back of my throat, its on the tip of my tongue
If I could sweep it out the door that would be the end
But this wind keeps blowing it in again

It's not that hard to say I know
It's not that hard to say I know
It's not that hard to say
So why can't I say it now?

Say It now, say it now, say it now!
Say it now, say it now, say it now!

And I've been locking all the doors and drawing all the blinds
It always seems to find its way back inside
If I could sweep it out the door that would be the end
But this wind keeps blowing it in again

So I can say it now
Say it now, say it now, say now!
Say it now, say it now, say now!
Say it now, say it now, say now!
Say it now, say it now, say now!
It's not that hard to say I know

12 worlds apart

"12 Worlds Apart," is something I wrote in compostion/songwriting class one monday at tafe. Really just about miscommunication and the inability to be able to clearly express and reveal yourself to someone and the frustration and consequences that can come of it. I feel it's something most people can relate to. Basically just being in the same room as someone but feeling exactly that "12 worlds apart." Something/Someone, so close yet so far away.

12 worlds apart
how did it come to this?
They're standing in the same room,
yet they're 12 worlds apart.
How did they end up there?
He says if she doesn't stop then he'll leave.
12 worlds apart, and where to go from here?

she says she's not afraid of the climb!
That she's afraid of the fall;
because last time she almost lost it all.

He wants to see her everyday.
but she doesn't wanna be where he has been before.
Standing in the same room they are 12 worlds apart.

12 worlds apart in a land she can not stand.
she sees them everyday.
mind over matter, her head explodes.
they can not go on this way.
12 worlds apart;
It must come to an end.
12 worlds apart;
she wonders if her heart will ever mend!
Forever, 12 worlds apart.

crappy attempts at poetry...(lyrics without a melody)

hiding in shadows, I've fallen behind.
Trembling in your footsteps, invisible again.
Wishing on a shooting star;
memories folded up and put away;
hopefully to be opened up some other day.
We were never any good at good bye's.
refrain: Sometimes life gets a little crazy

Ignorance is bliss, but now I feel alone.
Left behind; I've fallen back into the old days.
Day dreams of you and me, when we would stay out all night.
under the stars counting all the constellations;
And you'd promise me forever.
Refrain: Life gets a little crazy sometimes.

Folded up and put away.
Four seasons gone;
It's time to fly

John Butler

John Butler is a huge musical influence to me both lyrically and musically. This song "Revolutions" off the album April rising, really speaks to me along woth another song off this album "One way Road. My interpretation was that they both came across political and about the bigger picture and the bigger world and standing up for yourself and what you believe in. The world past yourself. And how screwed up this world can be. It's time for people to take a stand. This song meets a lot of my beliefs towards todays society. I would love to change the world and make it a better place but I'm just one person and John Butler makes a difference through his music writing about this stuff. He has power to be heard and I feel John But ler to be an amazing artist using his power to speak up.

Revolutions

So tell me family now what do you think ?
Watch it all go down the great big sink.
Watch how the scum it rises to the top.
Don't you wonder when it's all gonna stop?
Sometimes I wonder how we do sleep,
serving the dodgy companies we keep.
All kicking and scrounging for the very first place -
dictionary definition of a rat race.
Pay off those losers we elect to lead,
stealing from the mouths that we're meant to feed.
Enslaving the very clothes upon my back,
I feel the sting but I hear no crack, no crack, I'm saying

Running through the fire, running through the flame,
running through the hatred, pushing through the blame,
running through the hopelessness and shame,
revolution already underway.

Big Heavy Pirates man digging those holes,
messing with something that they can't control.
Tresspassing lands where they don't belong,
all I hear is screaming where there once were songs.
I got my brothers there fighting those wars,
fighting over scraps and scraping their souls.
Under a blanket of a fire and pride
that can't keep us warm for the cold inside,
inside, I'm saying

Running through the fire, running through the flame,
running through the hatred, pushing through the blame,
running through the hopelessness and shame,
revolution already underway.

So tell me when you think we're gonna rise?
Wake from this slumber wipe the tears from our eyes?
Yes from this nightmare yes I must now wake,
open my fist my destiny I take!
Good people sick and tired of being pushed around,
we call them kings but I see no crown.
Tell me when you think we'll just stand up,
say enough is enough is enough, enough I'm saying

Running through the fire, running through the flame,
running through the hatred, pushing through the blame,
running through the hopelessness and shame,
revolution already underway.

Take back your feet, take back your hands.
Take back your words, take back your lands.
Take back your heart, take back your pride.
Don't got to run, don't got to hide.
Revolution.

One Way Road

They come they take
It's never enough because they cant relate
To the real world, thinking that the oyster is just for the pearl
They start those wars
They want to own the land sea and all the stars
And right those wrongs
They change their history with their poison forked tongues.

All right, whos they?
A maybe its the government of today
Or B for the big business man who thinks the whole world revolves around him
Or C for the corrupt official for A and B he be the man in the middle
Or D for discoverer for Cook and Columbus and the pirate plunderers.

Doesn't mean I aint gonna fight now
Just because I dont got a gun
The lyrical is heavier than lead and
This guitar is my canon
Just like my Martin and Mahatma
I'm gonna love I'm gonna over come
Maybe it's E for all of the above but I dont want to be

Wrong way going down the one way road
Wrong way going down the one way road
Wrong way going down the one way road
Gonna turn it all around gonna back it on up
Wrong way going down the one way road
Wrong way going on a one way road
Wrong way going down the one way road
Gonna turn it all around gonna back it on up

These men who they say we should follow
But we cant follow men if their hearts are hollow and
Mmmm yes how can we respect puppet regimes we do not elect?
Straight up straight up staight up like Pinocchio
And every time they lie man the fire just grows so
I'm gonna be a part of the solution
Raise up your fists if you believe in revolution

Doesn't mean I aint gonna fight now
Just because I dont got a gun
The lyrical is heavier than lead and
This guitar is my canon
Just like my Martin and Mahatma
I'm gonna love I'm gonna over come
Maybe it's E for all of the above but I dont want to be

Livin' in a pantomime
Livin' in a fantasy
I don't wanna be dont wanna be
I don't wanna be dont wanna be no
Livin' in a pantomime
Livin' in a fantasy
I don't wanna be dont wanna be
I don't wanna be dont wanna be no

Wrong way going down the one way road
Wrong way going down the one way road
Wrong way going down the one way road
Gonna turn it all around gonna back it on up
Wrong way going down the one way road
Wrong way going on a one way road
Wrong way going down the one way road
Gonna turn it all around gonna back it on up
